Bio
Our Grandad, Ivan Symons, started a journal on the first day of the Second World War. He was 19 years old in September 1939, and working for the Inland Revenue. He didn't sign up for active service immediately, and he could probably have avoided it entirely as his eyesight was so poor, but it is obvious from his diaries that he took a passionate interest right from the start. He didn't sign up until some time in 1940, but the first journals detail his experiences of the war both as a civilian and as an avid follower of the news.

Since his recent death we have been attempting to transcribe his diaries, a difficult job due to the faded ink, the unfamiliar names and places (we knew shamefully little of the War before beginning this task) and his inpenetrable style of handwriting. We intend to post his entries a week at a time, under an lj cut (to save your friends page), as and when we've transcribed them.

If you'd like to read along with us and experience World War II LJ style, feel free to add this journal!
